History

Sea&Sea began life in Japan in 1972 when they introduced the world's first mass-produced underwater strobe; the "Yellow Sub-32". The name was derived from the Beatles song 'Yellow Submarine' and the strobe was canary yellow!

This was a theme that Sea&Sea carried on through the development of their amphibious cameras as well as their strobes.

• 1972 - Developed the YELLOW SUB-32, the world's first mass-produced underwater strobe.
• 1974 - Began exporting YELLOW SUB-35 series underwater strobes.
• 1975 - Developed underwater camera housings, underwater lights, underwater wide-angle lenses, housing for underwater 8mm cameras.
• 1980 - Co-developed the Ricoh Marine AD with Ricoh Co. Ltd.
• 1981 - Developed the Pocket Marine 110 SE, the world first motor-driven amphibious 110 camera.
• 1982 - Co-developed the Marine Pack MPK-M60 underwater video camera housing with Sony Corp.
• 1983 - Developed the Motor Marine 35SE, the world's first motor-driven amphibious 35mm camera.
• 1986 - Co-developed the Marine Pack MPK-M8 underwater 8mm video camera housing and the HVL-80D underwater video light with Sony Corp.
• 1987 - Co-developed the VW-MP1 underwater video camera housing with Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. Ltd.
• 1988 - Co-developed the Marine Pack MPK-F340 underwater video camera housing with Sony Corp.
• 1989 - Developed the Motor Marine II amphibious 35mm camera. Co-developed the Marine Pack MPK-VX1 underwater video camera housing with Sony Corp.
• 1990 - Co-developed the Marine Pack MPK-TR compact underwater video camera housing with Sony Corp. Developed the YS-200 high-powered underwater strobe.
• 1991 - Developed the YS-20SS, the world's first cordless underwater strobe.
  Co-developed the VW-SPS9 underwater video camera housing with Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. Ltd.
• 1992 - Developed the Motor Marine 35 MX-10 amphibious 35mm camera.
• 1993 - Developed the YS-300 super wide-angle underwater strobe with TTL capability.
• 1994 - Developed the SX-1000TTL single-lens reflex camera and the SX-1000 underwater housing.
  Developed the WL-12, the world's first underwater fish-eye lens.
• 1995 - Developed the Motor Marine IIEX 35mm underwater camera.
  Developed the YS-120 Duo underwater strobe with the world's first DUO capability.
  Developed the NX-50 and CX-500 underwater camera housings.
• 1996 - Developed the NX-90PRO underwater camera housing.
  Developed the VX-1000 PRO and VX-55 underwater digital video camera housings.
• 1997 - Developed the CX-600 underwater camera housing.
  Developed the YS-30TTL DUO, the world's first underwater cordless TTL slave strobe.
  Developed the VX-65 underwater video camera housing.
  Co-developed the Marine Pack MPK-TRV7 small-sized underwater video camera housing and the HVL-ML20 underwater video light with Sony Corp.
• 1998 - Developed the NX-5PRO, the top-of-the-line underwater camera housing.
  Developed the VX-100D underwater digital video camera housing with LCD.
  Co-developed the MPK-DVF small-sized underwater video camera housing with Sony Corp.
• 1999 - Developed the NX-60 and NX-90Z underwater SLR camera housings.
  Developed the VX-1D and VX-3D small-sized underwater digital video camera housings.
  Developed the YS-90TTL DUO mid-sized underwater cordless TTL strobe.
  Co-developed MPK-DVF2 small-sized underwater video camera housing with Sony Corp.
• 2000 - Developed the MX-5 the world's smallest semi-transparent underwater camera.
  Developed the NX-100PRO underwater camera housing. Developed the VX-100Mega compact underwater digital video camera housing.
  Co-developed the MPK-DVF3 small-sized underwater video camera housing with Sony Corp.
  Marketed the VX-2000PRO underwater digital video camera housing high-end model.
  Marketed the LX-25, LX-55, and BLX-55W underwater video lights.
• 2001 - Developed the NX-80 underwater camera housing.
  Developed the NX-65U underwater camera housing for the beginner. Developed the VX-PC100 and VX-PC110 small-sized digital video camera housings with infrared remote control grip.
  Co-developed the MPK Series housings for digital cameras with Sony Corp.
  Marketed the YS-25DX strobe, the world's first exclusively for digital cameras, with built-in pre-flash synchronization and built-in guide number controller.
• 2002 - Commemoration of SEA&SEA's 30thanniversary.
  Developed the MX-5II, the world's smallest point-and-shoot underwater camera, and the dedicated YS-20A automatic strobe.
  Co-developed the MC-DG100 housing for DiMage X with Minolta Camera Co. Ltd.
  Marketed the DX-30/60 and DX-D100 housings for Canon and Nikon SLR cameras.
• 2003 - Developed the Motor Marine III, the world's most advanced amphibious 35mm camera.
  Developed the YS-25AUTO and YS-90AUTO automatic strobes dedicated to digital cameras.
  Developed the DX-S2PRO housing for the Fuji digital SLR camera.
  Co-developed the DMW-MCF1 housing for LUMIX F1 with Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. Ltd.
• 2004 - Developed the DX-3100 AQUAPIX, the world's first amphibious digital camera.
  Developed the DX-D70 and DX-300D housing for Nikon and Canon digital SLR cameras.
  Co-developed the O-WP2, O-WP3 and O-WP4 waterproof cases for Optio with PENTAX Corp.
  Developed the YS-55TTL/E strobe, the world's first underwater TTL strobe for digital SLR cameras.
• 2005 - Developed the DX-8000G Camera and Housing Set.
  Developed the VX-FX1 housing for Sony Handycam FX1.
  Co-developed the MPK-THB waterproof cases for DSC-T3/T33 with SONY Corp.
  Co-developed the MC-DG500 waterproof cases for DiMAGE X with KONIKA MINOLTA Corp.
  Developed the DX-D50 housing for Nikon D50.
• 2006 - Developed the DX-750G Camera and Housing Set.
  Developed the VX-HC1 housing for Sony Handycam HC1.
  Developed the DX-5D housing for Canon 5D.
  Developed the DX-D200 housing for Nikon D200.
• 2007 - SEA&SEA Products Ltd. takes over the “lighting application products business” from Tocad Energy Co., Ltd. and becomes SEA&SEA SUNPAK Co. Ltd.
  Developed the YS-110 strobe.
  Developed the VX-S series housings for Sony Handycam.
  Developed the DX-400D housing for Canon EOS 400D.
  Developed the DX-D80 housing for Nikon D80.
• 2008 - Developed the MDX series housings for Nikon and Canon digital SLR cameras. Developed the DX-1G Camera and Housing Set.
  Developed the DX-1200HD Camera and Housing Set.
  Developed the RDX series housings for Nikon and Canon digital SLR cameras.
