The Underwater Realm - Independent Film Goes Underwater...

Sea&Sea are happy to assist REALM PICTURES get to grips with "being underwater" during the early stages of their exciting new short film, THE UNDERWATER REALM. Dave Reynolds from Realm Pictures says;

"The team here at Realm Pictures are in pre-production on a groundbreaking new short film - set entirely underwater!

Very early on in the inception of this project we sat down and watched every film, documentary and 'making of' that dealt with the underwater subject matter we were exploring. The one that sticks out was the making of documentary on Pixar's Finding Nemo - which explained that every artist in their vast team was required to obtain their open water ticket and visit a reef. The idea is that every single person involved with the production of the film would understand the magic of the ocean and the unique perspective it can give - and I think this shows in the final product.

The reason that this stuck with me was that I was very aware that nobody in my team (myself included) was a diver! I felt totally inadequate and more than a little ashamed of this - aside from the obvious practical implications of getting underwater for our busy research and development schedule - we needed to get in the ocean to allow our creative juices to flow!

The kind folks at Sea&Sea came to our rescue a few weeks ago and provided access to a safe environment and years of knowledge and expertise to start us on our way. David and the team have been quite literally invaluable, giving us basic training, advice, equipment and pool time, helping each member of the team take their first exciting steps into the world beneath the waves! We have been back to their facility for multiple research and development sessions where each department has been given time to study everything from the movement of cloth to the subtleties of underwater camera dynamics.

The next step of the journey is to formalise our training and get some open water experience so that we get a true feel for the vast scope of the ocean! We are always looking for people to help in any way they can with this groundbreaking and exciting short film project".
